If you think that SEO (or Search Engine Optimization if you are good with your tongue) is just a stagnant thing that does not change from time to time, then it is now a good time to think again! One should always remember that there is always something new with SEO and studying it one time without updating what you know will never cut it. With this let’s get back to the basics of Search Engine Optimization.

The trick with going back to basics in SEO is what should be taken in and what should not be taken in. I’m pretty confident that there will be some ‘basics’ that will be tackled while some points will also be considered by some as ‘more advanced. But do not worry, because either way, what I will share in this entry are those what I consider as “important”. So this is not a lesson on SEO but rather a headss-up as to what are the key elements of SEO. Either you are a neophyte in SEO or you have been hanging around for a while know, I hope that from this blog entry I post, you will earn a new thing or two, clarify some misconceptions, or get some answers to SEO mysteries.

Just like about everything, every site has to start from scratch. Have you heard or related to the saying that goes “Beauty is on the inside.”? Well, sometimes it is true with websites as well. See, if you have this million-dollar looking website but the SEO elements are worth less than a penny, it’s not really a good thing. But with just a few work, you can turn any website that lacks SEO into a website that attracts search engines big time!

But really, you really have to do the first step. Because if you do not do a single thing in implying a good SEO strategy for your site, then you will see your site will be falling short in many ways.

The essential elements of SEO come in four. These four basic essentials are the foundation most online success. But alas, what we really after for are the success of our business. But you need to learn these few things that should be really considered as part of your optimization technique in order for you to get that success. Here are the four elements.

Index Page – Before acquiring some pages to rank for your targeted keyword phrases, first you must be sure that search engines can find the, and figure these keywords after. This can be implemented by making sure that you have a very powerful website architecture that is easy for search engines to find. You can do this by also making sure that the links are properly navigable, by making a properly established hierarchy with the navigation of your site, and of course, your content has to be readable.

Ranking – Although, it might come (or must have) come to most of us, ranking is NOT really the most important goal in optimizing. Yes, I admit that ranking is very important, everyone does, but it is also important to understand that rankings do not make sales, but only to give your site a bigger chance on sales. Not all that are in number 1 are more successful than those that are in number 3.

Visitors – You will see a rise in your visitor count once you start getting rankings, even for low volume but important keywords. But, just as well, this is not what we really are after when we do SEO.

Conversions – Well, here it is, the most important purpose why we do SEO. Search Engine Optimization is not just about getting ahead of others with rankings and drive to your site. The measure of a very effective SEO is how much your percentage and conversion counts increased. It could be a comment to your blog, a follow on a micro blogging site or a purchase of your product.
